UKScrappers Challenge Scrapbook Page

"It's Not the Picture" Scrapbook page by SundayLAs some of you may remember I am part of a Scrapbooking “cyber” team over on and this week it was our Team’s turn to set the Challenge for anyone who wants to take part.

This is what it says…

The Rockin’ Ribbon Raiders have had great fun setting the challenge for this week! And Yay! We all get an extra day thanks to the bank holiday!!
This is our challenge:
We are the Rockin’ Ribbon Raiders ~ and for our challenge we would like you to :
(1) Scrap using something moving (i.e. to hide journalling, can be sliding, hinged etc.) ~ Rockin’
(2) Scrap using some ribbon ~ Ribbon
(3) Scrap using something you’ve had hanging around for ages ~ Raiders
and (4) just to make it more of a challenge, please scrap WITHOUT using a photo (however this does not prohibit the use of something other than a photo ~ e.g. a letter, a birthday card etc., etc., etc)

So here is my Scrapbook layout…

And the open card showing “what’s inside”…

And finally, a close up of the embellishments…

I did use the sewing machine for the ribbons… quick and easy to do.  However I have used silicone to hold the green one in plave with the flowers.

Is it me or are the photos a bit dark?

Scrapbooking Sketch and Challenge – April/May 2010

Right then, you can notch this one up as the “Real Simple” Scrapbooking Page Layout Sketch!

Using two pictures, light on the journaling, short title and making use of a Border Page Accent and you’re done!  And for those canny ones of you – can you spot the “Mucha-esque” lady?

Scrapbook Sketch by SundayL - April/May 2010

I thought a little bit of lattice work, or filigree type paper crafting might be good for your challenge this month.  Various ways to achieve it, punches (the picture below shows a Martha Stewart punched trellis (I think!)), cut out around a pattern by hand.  Cuttlebugs and Sizzix cutters are good, as are Craft Robos.  Which reminds me that I must get mine out of it’s box again and get cutting.

Scrapbooking Sketch and Challenge – March 2010

This month’s sketch is “hot off the Press” as it were.  I held my scrapbook Crop today and the subject was “Vertical Page Design” and I made a page (8×8) and this sketch is based on that page.

It’s a multi-photo scrapbook page again and I will write a little more about vertical design in another article.

I will post the picture of the scrapbook page when I have finished it… that’s how hot off the press this is! LOL

UPDATE: HERE is the finished page layout !

SundayL Designs & Simply Scrapbooking March 2010 Challenge

It’s a Colour Combo challenge – the three colours of these buttons I have on my desk.

Scrapbooking Sketch and Challenge – February 2010

This is a true sketch!  It’s even still in pencil – I haven’t drawn it out in pen!  I’ve just photographed my sketch for you here.  I actually sketched this one whilst sitting in the hairdresser’s chair last week.  I always take a scrapbook magazine and a pad and pencil with me… but I digress!

This is a 4 photo layout and an example of a type of colour blocking.  I have even managed to make a scrapbook page from it as an example for you this month!

It’s a digital page (I don’t make many of those!) and I made using the digi kit “Everyday Memories” by Juno Designs.

February’s challenge was inspired by these…

Yep they are crisp packets!  But I was inspired by the colour and the flower/starburst graphic on them actually!

So the challenge is to use the blue, pink and yellow on a layout and include a flower, over a starburst or something of that nature!

Scrapbooking Sketch and Challenge January 2010

A really multi-photo layout sketch this month!  Please excuse the shading… the scanner was having a funny half hour!  This sketch is based on a layout by Rosemary Merry in the December 2009 (and sadly last ever) issue of Scrapbook Inspirations Magazine.

January 2010 Sketch for Newsletter

And so to the challenge… Hmmm… let’s try limiting supplies!  As I have moved house over the Christmas period, and we stayed at holiday cottage for a week whilst workmen ripped the new house to bits, my stash was mostly packed and I had only one rolling tote and a mini tote with me.  I HAD to use what was within the containers… in this case I was only making cards… but it was a good exercise in enforced restraint actually making productivity increase.  I shall talk more about this soon, but the challenge for you now is to only use a maximum of 3 different things on your layout (ie, paper, brads and ink) (the adhesives are not included in the 3 things by the way!)

Scrapbook Page Sketch and Challenge December 09

Another multi-photo layout sketch.  This time we have 2 photos, but the emphasis is on the journaling, the story of the page.  And it’s a pretty simple page too.

December 09 Sketch for Newsletter

The challenge this month is to make a page where the emphasis is on the journaling and not the photographs.  Maybe you have something to say, but no photos to back it up?  Maybe it’s something about you, but don’t want to include a photograph of yourself.  No probs… just write/type the journaling and treat that just as you would a photograph… try it!

Scrapbook Page Sketch and Challenge November 09

I want to keep the Multi-Photo layout theme going, which is my intention for most of my sketches, and so here is a sketch for one large, main photo and up to three smaller photos.  You could keep this layout really simple with plain colours or pep it right up with some feature patterned paper.

And…Or… this could be a card with panels of patterned paper, where the smaller squares are embellishments!

 SimplyScrapbookingNow Newsletter Sketch November 09

I have been clearing my craft space today and came across a lot of scraps… all sorts of scrapbooking bits and pieces, from paper to odd buttons, brads and lengths of ribbon.  Immediately I knew what this month’s challenge should be…

Grab a handful of scraps and make something with them…. however, you must use only what you have grabbed… that could be a hard one!  so make sure you take a large collection of scraps, because apart from glue or sticky tape that’s all you can use.  Have fun, be carefree and “Just Do It!”.  I dare you to stick stuff down before you’ve designed the whole page! :-D

Take a picture of your pile of scraps and then take a picture of your creation – good luck!

Mickey Mouse Layout – Basic Grey Challenge

I decided to join in with the Basic Grey Challenges Blog this week and so here is my interpretation of the sketch…

Special Day by SundayL (8x8 page)

It’s an 8×8 scrapbook page.  I have noticed that there are mostly cards posted on the challenge blog as examples, but I scrapbooked it.  Here is the sketch…

Basic Grey Challenges blog Sketch

The Red and the Grey papers are Basic Grey, the middle grey paper is from Scarlett’s Letter and the red background paper is from the Blush Collection.  And here are a couple of close-ups.

October 09 Sketch & Challenge

Here is the Sketch for this month.  It’s a multi-photo (well dual-photo anyway!) scrapbook page, however I think I may use one large photo instead of 2 smaller ones when I create my page.  I made the sketch from a layout by Courtney Baker (see this blog post for her layout and links).

P.S. I don’t know why the drawing is grainy!!

Now then, it’s Autumn in the UK now and the leaves… they are a’ turnin’! So feel free to make a layout with autumn colours.

However, this month I have made a video tutorial about Sewing using Templates, so DECORATIVE SEWING on your pages is the challenge!

September Sketch and Challenge – Birthday Issue!

This month of September marks the first birthday of the Newsletter, my Ezine.  So the theme for this month’s sketch and challenge is birthdays!  Get scrapbooking a birthday!

However… to keep to the usual schedule I have September’s sketch for you… another multi-photo layout ( I know that you are always looking for ways to use more than one photo on a page!)
UPDATE:  Here is my layout based on this sketch

SKETCH Newsletter Sept 09 Sketch

As for the Challenge… if you are trying to stick to a diet… look away now! Sept 09 Newletter challange-cupcake

The challenge is to use the theme of birthdays, cakes or something similar and either use the shape of a cupcake in your page and/or use the colours of these cupcakes!  If you click on the image it will enlarge and you can see the sprinknle colours a little more clearly… watch the drooling though!
